Visit Bridport - Top Record Shop, Art & more!

We had the pleasure of visiting one of our oldest shop customers today - Clocktower Music Bridport.

Roy has been buying our cleaner for around 14 years and I'm ashamed to say I had never visited his shop before - despite only being an hour a way. Having only stopped briefly on the way through Bridport on previous occasions, we discovered some of the rest of the town and were very impressed at the independent shops and other creative businesses here.

Clocktower music is tucked away at Unit 10a, St. Michael's Estate, St Michael's Lane, DT6 3RR - This is Bridports historic Industrial and Vintage quarter, a short walk from the main shopping streets. 

Once we found the place we were given a warm welcome by Roy and assistant Jackie and gazed in wonder at all the cool stuff!

There is space age furniture to lounge on, cabinets of rock memorabilia including Beatles and the Small Faces and even a full size pinball machine if you fancy a go!

If retro, cool and quirky is your thing then you must pay a visit. The roomy shop has plenty for the vinyl lover, rows and rows of 12"s in nearly every genre you can think of, I also noticed a healthy amount of 7" singles too and some brilliant unique T-shirts on sale.

The shop stocks both new and second hand vinyl and collectables. I had a rummage through the £1 bargain bins and found a few bits of interest.

In an adjoining room is Clocktower Audio where we were delighted to be invited in to see a vast array of classic amplifiers, radios and turntables.

Meeting Simon was also a pleasure and I was pleased to hear he uses our record cleaning fluid : ) Here they have the facility to repair classic hi-fi systems, restore and rebuild original valve radios.

The vinyl needs cleaning back here too : )

I think I forgot to mention Clocktower also buy record collections and will give you a fair price I'm reliably told!

Please note Clocktower is open Wednesday to Saturday only  - 10 till 5pm.

Clocktower is located at St Michaels estate which is a great place full of independent shops, artist studios and more. 

St. Michaels Estate Although down the road from the main shopping area there is a nice big car park opposite the complex so you don't have to go too far.

Before taking a short walk to Roys second shop we visited the Global Art Galleries, just over the courtyard from Clocktower.

We had the pleasure of meeting James Hartey the owner , who entertained us with stories of Former fraudster Billy Mumford,  who's paintings can now be seen and purchased (legally!) at the gallery - well worth a visit too - fascinating stuff - we really loved this and could have spent all day chatting here and looking at paintings........but we had a second record shop to see so off we went.

St. Michaels and indeed much of Bridport seems to be a vibrant creative hub - I had never realised this before and to be honest I am looking forward to going back soon to see what else we can discover!

A new record shop in Bridport! - After the gallery we paid a visit to Clocktower's latest project for 2021.

A second store in the town aptly named Clocktower Too. Located on the main South Street, This smaller satellite of Clocktower is a joy to visit, with a life size wax model of David Bowie and an ultra cool space age theme complete with star wars ships and Death star lampshades - awesome! I want one.

Walking in here is like walking on to the set of space odyssey 2001 but with records!

The shop offers a large range of CDs, Vinyl and cassettes.

Being an owner of 2 egg chairs and a lover of Bowie the theme of this shop was definitely to my taste!

If you visit the town be sure to stop by here as well as the main store down the road. While you are there you might as well pickup a bottle of our Record Cleaning Fluid which is available in both shops by the way!

CDs and VINYL galore @ Clocktower Too

If you are a fan of rock memorabilia ask about the selection of unique photos by local photographer Adrian Boot, I'm told many are not in public domain and unique, I was tempted with a nice pic of Jimmy Hendrix which I decided to buy, we also took a look at some unseen photos from Elvis Graceland archives - how cool! The shop offers a big selection of photographs by Adrian Boot who spent 50 years capturing the essence of some seriously iconic superstars such as Bob Marley and the Clash. A chance to own something a bit special : )

To sum up we came away smiling, we found the trip well worth it  - Bridport is a fantastic town to visit, large but with a rural village charm. All the people we met were very friendly. There's great architecture, brilliant unique shops, art, food, pubs, Lovely scenery and at least 2 record stores to visit  - so no more excuses needed!😎
